Combined Evacuation Day/St. Patrick’s Day holiday is celebrated.

March 17, 1876

The day-long events include a large parade and ends with a dinner of the Charitable Irish Society at the Parker House, where keynote speaker Patrick Collins declares, “We are Irish-Americans: true to the old land and true to the new.” According to Craig Bruce Smith, “After 1876, the Irish celebration of St. Patrick’s Day lost its connection to the American Revolution.”
